چکیده

The importance of the HbA1c assay for evaluation of long-term glucose control is well established (1–3). However, data for HbA1c and average plasma glucose, in spite of their strong correlation (4 –7), show considerable scatter: for a given HbA1c level, average blood glucose generally varies by 5 mmol/l (7). This hampers interpretation of the HbA1c values of individual patients. In this study of a large sample of type 2 diabetic patients, we investigated the possibility of statistical association between HbA1c concentration and levels of the main glycatable circulating proteins other than hemoglobin (albumin and globulins).

Correlation between fasting plasma glucose, post prandial glucose and glycated haemoglobin and fructosamine.

This study was done to determine the correlation between glucose monitoring by fasting blood glucose or 2 hours postprandial blood glucose with HbA1c and fructosamine in type 2 diabetic patients. A total of 82 patients from the Primary Care Clinic were enrolled in the study. Fasting blood was drawn for fasting plasma glucose (FPG), glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) and fructosamine. Two hours after ...

Specific glycation of albumin depends on its half-life.

Some suggest that measurements of plasma fructosamine concentration should be corrected for the plasma protein (or albumin) concentration because the extent of glycation per volume depends on both protein and glucose concentrations. Several reports, however, demonstrate a poor correlation between plasma fructosamine and albumin concentrations in diabetic patients. In vitro kinetic and in vivo s...

Performance characteristics and clinical utility of an enzymatic method for the measurement of glycated albumin in plasma.

OBJECTIVE The measurement of plasma glycated albumin is particularly useful in the short-middle term monitoring of glycometabolic control in diabetics. The aim of this work is to evaluate a new enzymatic method for the measurement of glycated albumin in plasma, with particular attention to some selected cases and comparison with other relevant tests (fasting plasma glucose, after glucose load, ...

The Ratio of Estimated Average Glucose to Fasting Plasma Glucose Level Is Superior to Glycated Albumin, Hemoglobin A1c, Fructosamine, and GA/A1c Ratio for Assessing β-Cell Function in Childhood Diabetes

OBJECTIVE This study investigated the use of the estimated average glucose to fasting plasma glucose ratio (eAG/fPG ratio) to screen for β-cell function in pediatric diabetes. METHODS Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), glycated albumin (GA), fructosamine, insulin, and C-peptide levels were measured. The ratio of GA to HbA1c (GA/A1c ratio) was calculated, and the homeostasis model assessment of β-ce...

Fructosamine: an alternative assessment of past glycaemic control in developing countries.

Fructosamine assay determines glycaemic control in diabetic patients by measuring glycosylated plasma protein. This study was done to assess the value of fructosamine as an alternative test to HbA1c as a measure of glycaemia. Sixty patients (both insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) were selected from the diabetic clinic and fasting blood samples were...
